CARE Actor’s mission is to AWAKEN CREATIVITY while building confidence, courage & character in youth ages 2-15 years old, through theater arts education classes. We aim to inspire young artists to embrace their imaginations and talents. We believe that creativity is the gateway to a child's greatness, and to their ability to gain self-confidence. Our hope is that each child who joins our program will build confidence, courage, and character one “act” at a time.
We are seeking actors, stay-at-home parents, graduate students who specialize in early education, and retired teachers who enjoy arts education to serve as assistant teaching artists for our summer camps in Montgomery County and Northern Virginia.
Camps are offered either as half-day (9 am - noon) or full-day camps (9 am to 3/4 pm). They are divided into three age groups:
Act it Out! (Ages 4-6)
Dramatic Kids! (Ages 6-11)
Theatrical Teens! (Ages 11-15)
Camps run on a weekly basis; teachers can choose weeks according to availability. This contracted position begins mid-June with mandatory (paid) training. Camps run the week of June 24th through the week of August 26. Payment for Assistant Teaching Artists varies:
For half-day camps, assistant teachers receive $225 per week
For full-day camps that run 9 am to 3 pm, assistant teachers receive $450 per week
For full-day camps that run 9 am to 4 pm; assistant teachers receive $525 per week
Duties include assisting the camp’s lead teacher with::
Assisting lead teacher in music, movement, and improvisational theater games
Reading storybooks
Assisting lead teacher in rehearsals for final presentations
Provide age-appropriate guidance to students in the aspects of theater and art
Attend mandatory training the week of June 17-21 (compensated)
Qualifications:
1+ years of early childhood education experience
Knowledge and/or experience in character education
Passion for arts education
At least 18 years old
Our ideal candidate:
is willing to work at various sites (within 15-20 miles outside of preferred location)
has a reliable car
successfully completes a “mini-training” prior to official hire date

TEACHING ARTIST (SCHOOL YEAR) CARE Actor wants to build our team of talented teaching artists who are passionate about building confidence, courage, and character through arts participation. We are looking for dedicated, professional teaching artists to lead our classes with children ages 2-15. Our programs are located throughout suburban Maryland and Northern Virginia. Our class sizes vary from 6-20 students. We offer an hourly pay rate of $15 to $30 an hour, depending on experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leading improvisational theater games
Carrying out art projects
Reading storybooks to kids
Acting out stories for older students
Directing youth in writing and rehearsing original plays
Planning and designing costumes, scenery, and props
Assisting with lesson planning
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree or certification in early childhood education, education, fine arts, or performing arts
Professional experience working with children ages 2-15
Knowledge of or experience in character education
Passion for arts education
Age requirements:
Lead teachers: at least age 21
Assistant teachers: at least age 18
EXPECTATIONS
Can be scheduled to teach during CARE Actor class hours:
between 9 AM and noon Monday through Saturday
between 2 PM and 7 PM Monday through Friday
Can be scheduled to teach multiple classes per week
Is willing to work at various sites, some that might be 15-20 miles away from the candidate's preferred location
Has consistent access to reliable transportation to assigned teaching site
